We're Rooting For You: Just Do It!

I recently picked up Shoe Dog — the memoir of Phil Knight, founder of Nike. It was recommended by Jane Lee, who runs an incredible IG page dedicated to helping indie artists and creatives (definitely worth tapping in).

I’m about halfway through the book, and I couldn’t help but notice how many parallels there are between the early days of Nike — back when it was just Blue Ribbon Sports — and what we’ve been building with BFG.

I geek out on stories like this. The early chapters of iconic brands — whether it’s Apple, BlackBerry, or Def Jam Recordings — always hit the same. When you really look closely, they were all just figuring it out as they went.

No perfect roadmap. No master plan.Just vision, belief, and relentless forward motion.

And what stood out to me the most — what actually brought me a sense of peace — is that every single one of these stories is filled with failure. Over and over again.

So when I reflect on our own journey with BFG over the past 9 years… all the missteps, all the risks, all the L’s… I don’t feel crazy anymore. I don’t feel like we were doing it wrong.

That’s actually part of the process.

I remember one time trying to launch an app — ended up getting duped out of some real money by a shady company that delivered something completely broken. Didn’t function at all. That one hurt.

Then there was our attempt at building a VST. On paper, great idea. In reality? Not financially sustainable at the time. Another L.

And we even tried our hand at putting together a mini festival. We had the vision, the energy, the intent to create something special for the community — but like so many things during that time, it got railroaded by COVID before it could ever fully come to life.

But here’s the shift: those weren’t just losses — they were lessons. Real ones. The kind you can’t Google, can’t shortcut, can’t avoid.

That’s the price of building something real.

So I say all this to say — in the spirit of Phil Knight… just do it.

Take the shot.Make the mistake.Fail forward.

Because that’s the only way you actually learn, adapt, and evolve into what you’re meant to become.

Another thing all these stories have in common? Belief.

Unshakable belief.

None of these founders quit. Most of them didn’t even entertain the idea of quitting. The vision was too real. Too embedded in who they were.

And that’s the part I want to pass on to you.

As always, I believe in all of you. But more importantly — I want you to believe in yourselves.

Because we’re all in this together. Building, learning, taking risks, taking losses, and celebrating the wins when they come.

That’s the journey.

And through all of it, don’t forget:

We’re rooting for you.
