We're Rooting For You: Balancing Act

It’s been a little while since my last entry. Coincidentally, that time away is what inspired this post.

What can I say? This year has been an absolute kurfunkle since January. Between losing my job and my car going to crap for two and a half months, it’s been eventful.

I don’t say any of this to complain. Despite the setbacks, I can honestly say I’m truly blessed and fortunate. However, the past few months have been hectic on the personal side, and with the addition of my new job, it seems the one thing I kept losing and couldn’t seem to find was time.

But no excuses. That comes with the territory of chasing our dreams.

It’s never going to be a straight line. Even when we feel like things are going exactly how we want them to, life will hit you with the ol’ “hold my beer.”

The recent adjustments to my life have reminded me just how important it is to remain adaptable.

You have to roll with the tides and work to find your balance.

Finding myself sometimes utterly exhausted after work, I’ve realized how vital it is to map out my week. To intentionally allocate time to BFG, just as I would allocate time to my job.

For me, that means journaling tasks, utilizing my whiteboard, writing things down on sticky notes, and doing whatever it takes to keep my head in the game.

As creatives, I know how challenging it can be to balance our creative aspirations with the responsibilities of everyday life.

So I encourage you to find a system that works for you.

Maybe it’s a journal.

Maybe it’s a calendar.

Maybe it’s a whiteboard covered in notes.

Maybe it’s waking up an hour earlier or turning off the TV at night and finally working on that project you’ve been putting off.

Whatever it is, find it.

Because this life we chose is a marathon, not a sprint. And if we want to make it to the finish line, balance is essential for our endurance.

There will be seasons where you can give everything to your craft.

There will also be seasons where life demands more from you.

That doesn’t mean you’ve lost your way.

Sometimes, you simply have to adjust your pace.

The important thing is that you keep moving.

So if you’ve been struggling to find that balance lately, know that you’re not alone.

Give yourself some grace. Adjust. Recalibrate. Make a new plan.

Then get back to it.

Until next time, keep building, keep creating, and keep finding your balance.

We’re rooting for you.
