Thriftworks — “Mörning Wüd”
One of the reasons I love keeping up with my Release Radar is that every now and then, something pops up that completely catches me off guard. This time, it was Mörning Wüd by Thriftworks, and man, am I glad I stumbled across this one.
The track has a real R&B feel to it, but with a next-dimensional twist. It carries that familiar, laid-back rhythm you associate with R&B, while Thriftworks takes the production somewhere completely different. There's a futuristic quality to the sound that makes it feel familiar and unfamiliar at the same time.
What really caught my ear were all the layers. The string elements, ambient vocal chops, and airy textures give the track so much depth. I love how there's always something happening in the background to draw your attention, but the overall groove stays relaxed. It's the kind of production I can get completely lost in, especially with a good pair of headphones.
This is exactly why I keep digging through new releases. You never know what little gems you're going to come across, and Mörning Wüd was definitely one of them.
